Can a roof deck serve as both a watertight shield and a high-impact basketball court? For a residential project in Oton, Iloilo City, the answer was a resounding yes—but only with the right technical system.

The homeowner had previously attempted to waterproof the deck using a standard cementitious product. Because cementitious systems are often brittle and not designed for direct exposure or mechanical friction, the coating quickly delaminated and failed under the sun and foot traffic. Seeking a permanent solution that could withstand the "play and stay" demands of a makeshift basketball court, Crossworld Trading turned to Buildrite’s specialized polyurethane (PU) system.

The project utilized a dual-layer approach to ensure both structural protection and athletic performance:
• The Waterproofing Foundation: Buildrite Clever Sil was applied as the primary waterproofing layer. Its high elasticity and dense molecular structure allow it to bridge hairline cracks and prevent water ingress, even under the dynamic loads of jumping and running.
• The Athletic Surface: To transform the deck into a court, Buildrite Polycoat Flex was applied as the top layer. This PU rubberized flooring is specifically engineered for sports facilities, offering:
• Shock Absorption: Reducing impact stress on the players' joints.
• Slip Resistance: Providing vital traction for quick movements, even in humid conditions.
• Abrasion Resistance: Withstanding the constant friction of basketball shoes and ball bounces.
• UV Durability: Ensuring the court’s color and flexibility do not degrade under the intense Iloilo sun.

By moving away from a rigid cementitious "under-layment" to a high-performance PU system, the homeowner now enjoys a dual-purpose space. With Buildrite’s technical assistance, the roof deck is now a durable, leak-free sanctuary that doubles as a functional arena for the family.
