Project Reference

In a factory setting, the floor slab is constantly punished by heavy machinery, forklifts, and industrial loads. Over time, this stress can lead to spalling—where the surface of the concrete chips or breaks away, creating uneven pits that pose safety risks and damage equipment.

Engineer John Young of Hi-Speed Construction faced this exact challenge at a facility in the Cebu Light Industrial Park. The repair required a material that could be applied thinly (10mm to 15mm) to match the existing floor level, yet possessed the structural "muscle" to reach 5,000 psi compressive strength to handle heavy traffic. Standard cement mortars often fail in these thin-layer applications because they shrink, crack, or lack the necessary bond strength.

To ensure a permanent fix, Buildrite recommended a systematic two-step approach:

The Bonding Bridge: Before applying the mortar, Buildrite Confix LV (Low Viscosity) was applied as a structural bonding agent. This ensures that the new repair mortar becomes an integral part of the old concrete slab, preventing delamination even under the shear forces of heavy wheels.

The High-Strength Resurfacing: Buildrite Hardcrete 510 was used as the final repair mortar. Unlike traditional screeds, Hardcrete 510 is pre-packed for consistency and engineered for rapid strength gain.

Technical Advantages of Hardcrete 510:
• High Compressive Strength: Specifically designed to reach 5,000 psi, making it suitable for industrial-grade impact and loads.
• Thin-Layer Capability: Can be applied as thin as 10mm without losing its structural integrity or "feathering" at the edges.
• Non-Shrink Formula: Prevents the formation of shrinkage cracks at the interface of the repair, ensuring a watertight and dust-proof finish.
• Rapid Strength Gain: Minimizes factory downtime by allowing the floor to be put back into service faster than standard concrete.

With on-site technical assistance from Buildrite, Hi-Speed Construction successfully restored the factory slab, providing a smooth, high-capacity surface that is ready for the rigors of daily industrial operations.
