Honeycombs—voids in concrete formed by improper compaction or incomplete filling of formworks—are more than just an aesthetic flaw. Left untreated, these gaps expose reinforcement bars to air and moisture, leading to corrosion and significant loss of structural integrity.

When Bon Construction and Development Corp. discovered honeycombing in the columns and beams of their project, they reached out to Buildrite’s technical team for a high-strength repair system. Because honeycombs often occur on vertical surfaces, the challenge was to find a material that could be applied thickly without sagging or shrinking.

Our technical team recommended a three-step systematic approach:
1. Priming & Bonding: Buildrite Confix LV (Low Viscosity) was used to prime the area and ensure a high-strength bond between the old concrete and the repair mortar.
2. Structural Patching: Buildrite Concrete Patch V was applied to fill the voids. This specialized, shrinkage-compensated mortar is designed for vertical applications, allowing for a single-layer thickness of up to 40mm without the need for supporting formworks.
3. Curing: Buildrite Solidcure was utilized to ensure the patch cured evenly, preventing surface cracks and maximizing the material's strength.

Buildrite Concrete Patch V is engineered for high-performance structural demands. As a single-component powder, it reaches a staggering 5,800 psi compressive strength at 28 days. Its non-shrink properties ensure that once the mortar is packed into the honeycomb, it maintains a permanent, airtight seal that restores the structural capacity of the beam or column.
