Project Reference
During the construction or renovation of a residence in Tandang Sora, Quezon City, Engr. Billy Aceron identified critical defects in the structural beams. The concrete exhibited "honeycombing"—porous pockets of air and exposed aggregate—and "spalling," where sections of the concrete had chipped away. These issues are often the result of improper vibration during the pour, the use of worn-out phenolic boards, or a lack of flow-enhancing admixtures in the original concrete mix.
When a beam's structural integrity is compromised, the repair material must be significantly stronger than the surrounding concrete. Engr. Aceron reached out for a solution that could penetrate deep into the honeycomb voids and restore the beam's load-bearing capacity.
The Solution: Buildrite SolidCure
For this critical operation, Buildrite SolidCure was selected to rehabilitate the damaged structural sections.
Why Buildrite SolidCure was the Essential Choice:
• High-Performance Strength: With a compressive strength reaching 8,000 psi, Buildrite SolidCure provides a repair that is often stronger than the original structural concrete, ensuring the beams can safely carry the building's load.
• Positive Expansion (Non-Shrink): Ordinary cement shrinks as it cures, which would create a gap between the patch and the beam. Buildrite SolidCure features controlled expansion, ensuring it "grips" the existing concrete for a 100% solid, monolithic bond.
• Exceptional Flowability: Its highly flowable, grout-like consistency allows it to be poured or pumped into tight formworks. This ensures that every honeycomb void is completely filled, eliminating the risk of hidden air pockets within the beam.
• Durability: As a cement-based, non-staining grout, it provides long-term stability and protection for the internal reinforcement bars.
By using an engineered grout rather than a standard cement mix, Engr. Aceron was able to successfully restore the beams to their full structural design strength, ensuring the safety and longevity of the Quezon City residence.
