Project Reference

For outdoor or ground-level residential basketball courts, the greatest threat to the floor’s longevity isn't the players—it's the moisture coming from beneath the concrete. In Sto. Domingo, Quezon City, the homeowner had grown frustrated with "self-priming" systems that promised convenience but resulted in constant maintenance. These previous coatings suffered from osmotic blistering—where moisture vapor from the soil gets trapped under the paint, causing it to bubble and peel within months.

The owner decided to switch to a professional-grade system after learning that a successful athletic court requires a dedicated moisture defense layer rather than a "one-size-fits-all" product.

The Buildrite Superior Priming System:
• The Moisture Lock: Instead of applying the topcoat directly to the concrete, the team first applied Buildrite Epocoat MB. This high-strength epoxy primer is specifically engineered to act as a moisture barrier. It penetrates the concrete pores to "lock" out rising dampness, providing a stable foundation that prevents blisters from forming.
• The High-Performance Surface: Once the moisture barrier was established, Buildrite Floortek Flex was applied. This rubberized floor coating provides the necessary "give" and slip resistance required for a basketball court, ensuring player safety and high-impact durability.

Why the "System Approach" Outperforms Self-Priming Products:
• Superior Adhesion: Buildrite Epocoat MB creates a chemical bond with the concrete that far exceeds the grip of standard paints. It ensures the Buildrite Floortek Flex remains anchored even under the high friction of sudden stops and pivots during a game.
• Elimination of Blistering: By blocking moisture vapor at the substrate level, the system prevents the pressure buildup that leads to coating failure.
• UV and Weather Resilience: The combined system is designed to withstand the harsh Quezon City climate, maintaining its vibrant color and rubberized texture despite heavy rain and intense sun exposure.

Technical Insight: The homeowner’s experience proves that "Self-Priming" often means "No Priming." By investing in the Buildrite Epocoat MB foundation, the project moved from a cycle of constant repair to a long-term, professional-grade athletic surface.
