Public sports centers are the heart of local communities, but they also endure some of the highest levels of wear and tear—from intense sports matches to large-scale cultural gatherings. Municipal Engineer Emman dela Cuesta faced the challenge of refinishing the aging floors of the Marcos Sports and Cultural Center in Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

As a loyal partner of Buildrite, Engr. Emman knew that simply painting over an old floor wouldn't suffice. Sports floors built on ground-level slabs often suffer from "rising damp" or moisture vapor, which can cause new coatings to peel, bubble, or delaminate. To ensure a "brand new" look that lasts for decades, we implemented a high-performance moisture-barrier and athletic-coating system.

The refinishing process focused on two critical layers of protection:

The Moisture Shield: Buildrite Epocoat MB (Moisture Barrier) was applied as the primer. This specialized epoxy layer acts as a permanent seal against moisture vapor coming from the ground. By blocking this pressure, it ensures that the decorative topcoat stays firmly bonded to the slab, even during the humid seasons of Ilocos Norte.

The Resilient Finish: For the final surface, Buildrite Polycoat Flex was selected. This polyurethane (PU) rubberized coating is the gold standard for multi-purpose halls. It provides:
• Shock Absorption: Protects the joints of athletes during high-impact sports.
• Abrasion Resistance: Withstands the heavy foot traffic and chair movement common during cultural events.
• Seamless Hygiene: A monolithic surface that is easy to clean and maintain, with no grout lines or joints to collect dirt.

Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Badoc, T. Gamayo Construction Supply, and Buildrite’s technical team, the Marcos Sports and Cultural Center has been successfully transformed. The result is a vibrant, durable, and professional-grade facility that is ready to serve the community for many years to come.
